An Interview with Axel Liebetrau on Fresh Ideas and Impulses in New Business
You are an expert in innovation and the future – companies want and need to be innovative: What are the prerequisites for innovation? What does a company need to do to be innovative and successful?
The ability to identify changed customer needs, new technologies, and disruptive innovations early and implement them quickly is the hallmark of successful individuals and companies. Of course, in the later implementation, a suitable toolbox and the ability to use the tools are needed, but early identification and quick implementation initiation are crucial. This requires leaders who are visionaries. They must show where the journey is heading. If they do not do this, they are mere administrators and not leaders.
You say that the "new rules of business" must be recognized early, can you give a specific example?
When the rules of business and the market change, it can quickly become a threat to existence. We all know the classic examples like the rapid decline of Kodak and the meteoric rise of Instagram. Steven J. Sasson developed the first digital camera at Kodak in 1975. Kodak chose to manage market leadership rather than write the next success stories. Today's teenagers all know Instagram, but only a few still know Kodak.
Where are the biggest challenges of the future currently?
The challenges are diverse and vary depending on the business model. However, digital transformation, demographic change, and advancing individualization are the game-changers of change that all companies must currently face. In my proposal, I not only highlight these challenges but also provide inspirations and ideas on how to successfully address these challenges.
In summary, can you name 3 essential qualities for an innovative company? Please briefly explain your selection.
Unconditional customer orientation, no fear of mistakes and failure, and childlike curiosity!
Shareholder approaches are important and good, but at the end of the day, the customer pays the bills. Mistakes propel companies and people forward, especially in times of changing rules. Curiosity drives companies and people to do something different or start something new.
We are pleased that you will be a speaker at the 4th Karlsruhe Knowledge Forum. What topics will you address, what can we expect?
The lecture focuses on professionals and executives from various fields who should be sensitized to the changed rules and associated changes. The lecture explores how markets and business will change in the future due to trends, digital transformation, and new rules. The focus is on learning from other MAKERS and which simple techniques and tools they use to shape growth and new business.
