Change of perspective - Those who never turn off, stay on the same path.

A phenomenon is currently being observed all over the world: people are tired and exhausted from the speed and complexity of our world and crave less for change than for a weekend where they can binge-watch an entire TV series for two days in a row (believe me, I know that all too well). Similar tendencies can also be seen in companies, and even in entire nations. No stress, no taking risks. We dream of defining our personal and national comfort zones again, barricading ourselves in there, and then staying there comfortably. However, despite this deep longing for peace and deceleration, we are not really willing to give up success and prosperity and we know very well that success always involves performance, change, and renewal. This leads us directly into a modern dilemma: Standing still is not a solution, but the known paths tire us out. I learned one thing early on in my long running training sessions. Firstly, even the toughest training sometimes needs periods of rest and recovery. But they can only serve as the starting point for new training stimuli. At some point, you can't avoid leaving your comfort zone again. However, in order to prevent it from becoming monotonous and boring, you should always vary and change your training. I have applied this principle in all of my projects. I have always asked myself: Isn't there another way to solve the task? Which business areas are currently NOT in demand? Who says Germans can't laugh? The reason I have been dealing with humor for so many years stems from the idea that firstly, I enjoy laughing AND secondly, many years ago I thought that if the whole world says that Germans have no sense of humor and we often believe it ourselves, then that is a market that still has a lot of potential. And when I see how big the German comedy scene has become and how much I have worked and produced successfully in this environment, it seems I wasn't completely wrong. For me, this means that when we are stressed or dissatisfied, we ultimately have two options. We can stand still and rest, hoping that after a long sleep, everything will get better on its own, or we can take a deep breath, change our perspective, and set new goals. Because one thing life has also taught me: without perspective, life and work are no fun. I have also wondered for a long time, "Where is the journey going?" I knew I needed a goal again that drives and inspires me. Six months ago, I started again with what I had done as a high-performance athlete in my younger years, namely running. But after a few weeks, I asked myself, what is your goal? Are you running a marathon now? Although I ran a half marathon in 1:29 after only three months of training. Not bad, but not so unique that it makes me float in seventh heaven for a year. Or should I even tackle a 100 km run? As I said, sometimes you should ask yourself: isn't there more to it? Can't you approach the topic of running differently? Why always run such long distances, why not run really fast again? I have now decided to get back on the track at the age of 54. My plan is to compete in my age group on the 1,500 meters track at the Athletics (Masters) World Championships 2018 in Malaga, Spain. This means two years of hard training. 6-10 training sessions per week. The German Championships are first on the schedule in the summer of 2017, with the goal of qualifying for the 2017 European Championships in Aarhus, Denmark, and then qualifying for the 2018 World Championships. Will I make it? I hope so, but I know very well that a lot can go wrong. But I am full of energy, curious about what it will be like for me to train with a performance group that is between 20 and 25 years old, I have 100 ideas for new projects, and I am already making plans with my wife about which countries and competitions we will travel to. In other words, sometimes you have to look at things in a new way, leave the known paths, and just start running. More information about our Top 100 Speaker Klaus-Jürgen Deuser
