Mr. Schmiel, a psychologist and TV personality, uses research-based methods for motivation. Sustainable motivation requires daily engagement with goals and actions, not just positive thinking. Leaders should motivate employees through appreciation and challenging tasks. Schmiel finds joy in his diverse profession, following Confucius' advice to choose a job one loves.

Dipl.-Psych. Rolf Schmiel in an Interview
Mr. Schmiel, you are a qualified psychologist, author, and active as a psychological expert for radio and TV. You can be seen alongside Ruth Moschner in the Sat1 show "So tickt der Mensch." Yes, that's correct! I made the leap as a psychologist to prime time TV this year. It's a new challenge for me, but one that is incredibly fun as well. Ruth Moschner is a great person. She supported me a lot during the show recordings. More TV formats are in the planning with me. But I can't reveal more details yet. When one thinks of motivation trainings, they often have an image of coaches shouting "tschaka!" and making their participants walk over glass shards or hot coals. In contrast, you present yourself distinctly differently. What sets your approach apart from other motivation trainers? As an experienced psychologist, my methods are based on research findings and behavior therapy. This way, profound changes in participants of my events can be activated demonstrably - without silly games or esoteric self-invocations. Is it possible to sustainably motivate oneself, or will one inevitably return to their everyday routine soon? Counter question: Is it possible to shower sustainably?! If one wants to fully utilize their potential and be successful in the long term, they must engage daily with their goals and visions. It's important not only to plan and think about possible successes but to take action. Actual actions lead to new insights and successes, ultimately bringing one closer to the goal. What motivation traps should one avoid? In my current motivation guide "Senkrechtstarter," I describe 10 motivation myths that lead to frustration rather than a desire for achievement in the long run, e.g., misunderstood positive thinking. Blind hooray optimism can lead to painful crashes. We must have the courage to actively deal with our weaknesses and mistakes. How important is it for a leader to motivate not only themselves but also their employees? Is it even possible to motivate someone other than oneself in the long term? Emotions are the driving force behind our actions. And when the mood is right, so are the results. As a leader, it is important to promote and challenge employees. Promote through appreciation and challenge through exciting tasks. When this is practiced, teams enjoy working together! What helps you the most on days when you would rather not step outside to get back on your feet? When it comes to my job, I am in a fortunate situation: I love my profession. It is diverse and brings new challenges. During my lecture travels, I get to visit beautiful places and meet remarkable people. For me, the old wisdom of Confucius applies: "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life!" Challenges of the VUCA world - Line hierarchy cannot cope with complexity

In a VUCA world, traditional hierarchies are being replaced by flexible roles, shared leadership by individual leadership, and self-organization by external organization. Adapting to these changes requires overcoming mental challenges and developing agile routines, embracing new forms of collaboration, and changing individual roles within companies. Leaders must serve teams, delegate decision-making, and trust employee competencies. Despite slow progress, there is a growing willingness to change, with success depending on individual and organizational readiness for change. Show post
