Effective eLearning with heart, brain, and hand

Effective eLearning in organizations requires the integration of Heart, Mind, and Hands. Neglecting these aspects leads to ineffective learning with sterile content and lack of motivation. Awareness and commitment are key for successful eLearning implementation.

Effective eLearning with Heart, Mind, and Hands

Effective eLearning is always to be seen as part of integrated learning in organizations. It is therefore situated at the intersection of effectiveness, change management, and learning organization. In addition to the necessary awareness for eLearning, the focus is particularly on the question of effective learning. But how can effective eLearning be achieved in organizations? A key element in this regard is the triad of Heart, Mind, and Hands! Pestalozzi and eLearning The idea of Heart, Mind, and Hands (3Hs) goes back to Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746-1827). Experience shows that Heart, Mind, and Hands play a significant role in learning within organizations and from organizations, especially when it comes to shaping learning and conveying knowledge. This is particularly true for eLearning in organizations. Shortcomings in Practice In practice, it is evident that in many organizations, these 3Hs are not taken seriously because eLearning is actually seen as a cost-cutting tool. "We save at all costs!" is a motto that is all too often recognized. Consequently, in many cases, there are sterile training packages instead of learning with Heart, Mind, and Hands. The cheapest content is produced and distributed to participants. This is done without heart, solely for compliance, and at a subpar level. Similarly, there is often a lack of mind because there is no further consideration of what effectiveness in learning #elf10 means. Additionally, there is often a lack of technical competence, or hands-on skills. As a result, very little, if anything, sticks with the learners. The transfer of learning approaches zero. Where is the Motivation? The motivation for learning decreases, and employees do not look forward to the next learning session nor see any learning opportunities. On the contrary, they dread it! Employees often just let these eLearning packages run for 90 minutes and then say, "Done, requirements fulfilled!" They haven't learned anything except how to deal with organizational stupidity without suffering too much damage. It is interesting that organizations and management are quite content with this state of affairs. However, the affected individuals, the learners, are not. The Right Awareness In theory, it sounds so trivial, but in practice, it is repeatedly demonstrated how crucial the right awareness is for success in using eLearning. Here, we move between heart and mind. This is where the foundation for effective eLearning is laid. As a management consultant, the question of awareness regarding eLearning is a crucial one, especially at the beginning of a change process in the eLearning domain. This question must be addressed and presented no later than in the cornerstone of "Strategy" (cornerstone of change management). Heart, Mind, and Hands The interaction of Heart, Mind, and Hands plays a crucial role in eLearning within organizations. If one component is missing, effective learning is no longer possible. The triad of Heart, Mind, and Hands is thus the constant and faithful companion on the path to effective eLearning in organizations.
