How to live happily is not taught in school, but the topic is on everyone's lips in social media. There is a real demand for spirituality. The changes caused by the pandemic have socio-economic consequences that require a diverse, global, and innovative vision to satisfy the need for happiness. Where to start? From the teachings of those who confront their EGO and bring to light the shadows of those who consider themselves unproblematic while in truth ignoring themselves.
When I began studying the general part of criminal law, which also examines the offense from the perspective of guilt and justification, I theoretically understood the difference between those who are justified because they have a justified exculpatory emergency, incapacity, or diminished capacity, and those who are accountable. As I did not see those who commit crimes or offenses as normal, I wondered what goes on in the minds of these people.
The right question, however, is how do people who do not commit crimes differ from those who do commit crimes. How does society influence criminality? The latter ensures that offenses such as abortion, sodomy, or sexuality with animals are not considered crimes.
Through my experience as a lawyer in both criminal and civil law, and through my personal growth as well as my training as a coach and spiritual counselor, I have practically understood that people are confronted with situations in life where they can learn something about themselves because legal cases confront them with their dark sides. Now, taking criminal law, the different chapters of the criminal code deal with a person's EGO, similar to Dante in the Inferno of the Divine Comedy.
I find that our society has no strategy to break free from this vicious cycle of people committing crimes and offenses. And I think that even criminals on the macro level of general consciousness teach us something. They had the courage to descend into hell themselves because it was their soul's task or because life left them no other choice. They teach victims that they are not so good to themselves: they do not respect and love themselves. Otherwise, they would not be victims: we all have a bright and a dark part, i.e., the shadows that make us unhappy. If the dark part is not processed but suppressed by the light, an evil angel comes and teaches us to love ourselves.
A society as developed as we are must not forget that in addition to the prevention methods provided for in the current criminal code and code of criminal procedure, there are others: If schools taught how to lead a happy life, many people would not commit crimes, and more importantly, the "good" would not become their victims. This cannot be left to parents who may themselves be frustrated and not know how to live happily.
The pursuit of happiness leads people to quit their jobs without having a plan B. This is just the beginning of a universal change that began with the pandemic and that economists have underestimated and do not know how to deal with. Money does not make you happy, says an Italian proverb. But then what? The answer is the secret of those who have the courage to live happily.
