Generational DIVERSITY instead of Skills SHORTAGE

Thomas de Maizière discusses the need for improved work ethic among different generations. Generation Z's high demands, lack of skilled workers, and potential conflicts are highlighted. Emphasizing teamwork and emotional leadership is crucial for maximizing employee potential. The importance of age diversity and balancing work expectations is stressed for a successful "House of Generations."

Generational DIVERSITY instead of Skills SHORTAGE

Do we all need to work more and better? This is what Thomas de Maizière says. And what about Generation Z? What demands and needs are there? Is there a lack of work ethic and perseverance? A generational conflict is looming. Especially Generation Z often demands too much, the Baby Boomers have only a few years left in the workforce, or are already retired, and Generation X, the "in-between middle-aged," also fall through the cracks of many companies. However, Generation X represents the largest population group in Germany. We must finally see age as an opportunity and hire and develop older workers. Work expectations and perspectives often differ greatly, and the potential for conflict is high! Fact: There are too few skilled workers for too many open positions. Movement is needed from all sides: away from "I" towards "We." Only in this way can the "House of Generations" function and the full potential of all employees be utilized. And then there are the 2.5 million women who switched to part-time work during Corona due to caregiving responsibilities. If each one works just one hour more, according to IG Metall, we will have 70 thousand new workers. What is possible there and what framework conditions are needed? Regarding the younger generation with their often high expectations and demands: Here, I say clearly: Away from avoiding displeasure. Happiness is a reward for overcoming obstacles. How do we lead the new generation so that everyone is motivated to make a difference? The answer lies in emotional experiences, that is emotional leadership within the company. In the end, one thing is important: We all need each other! #Taking action in the House of Generations. So that Germany is not passed over. Not bending over for some and not forgetting the others, the older ones! The debate was fueled by my guest article in Handelsblatt: https://www.handelsblatt.com/meinung/gastbeitraege/gastkommentar-top-oder-flop-wo-steht-generation-z-in-der-arbeitswelt/29106344.html.
