Daily Innovation: Unnecessary Stress Trigger for Executives?
Good ideas and successful innovation do not come daily. Nevertheless, managers and executives are increasingly expected to deliver these today. While in the past years, top performers were required to demonstrate effectiveness and efficiency, now it is infectious creativity, stimulating inspiration, and fresh impulses. This overwhelms some good and experienced leaders, often triggering unnecessary and sometimes unnoticed stress. However, it is not really that difficult when creativity and innovation are not understood as something imposed, mandated, and additional. Creativity and innovation can be easily fostered in business by building and promoting appropriate internal structures. This includes the opportunity to exchange ideas across departments and companies, actively involve customers and partners in idea development, and create enough space in the office routine for thinking outside the box and tinkering. Additionally, connect with universities, research institutes, and professional associations. Continuously change entrenched routines in both personal and business life. Introduce small, creative disruptions in your office setup, at the beginning of meetings, or in project work. Keep trying out new creativity techniques. Stay loyal to your professional literature, but feel free to read industry-unrelated magazines and blogs. Attend industry-unrelated conferences, trade shows, or lectures regularly. You can see that there are countless approaches to more creativity and innovation! However, the most important thing is not to let this stress you out. Daily small, creative disruptions are automatically stimulating inspirations.
