Interview with fitness coach Patric Heizmann
Mr. Heizmann, you are a fitness coach and a multiple bestselling author, combining nutrition and comedy to show that you can also laugh about food. How did you come up with the idea of giving lectures for both the stomach AND the diaphragm? When I started sharing my knowledge with small, interested groups early on, I tried to convince them with pure numbers/data/facts knowledge. However, the topic is too dry. I started packaging scientific facts in a vivid language – and it was very well received. Ultimately, I also incorporated humor. This way, the attention span during my lectures remains at a constant 100%. That's when we absorb more than we thought possible. Is it difficult to be slim or to stay slim? Do you really need the full diet program to stay in shape, or is it much easier than that? It's easier than you think. We get caught up in overly complicated rules: counting calories or points? Paleo-vegan-fruitarian high-carb-low-fat ketogenic diet? We don't need such strict ideas when it comes to something as important and enjoyable as nutrition. A healthy diet must do two things: keep you full for a long time and taste very good. How to achieve this without completely bending over backwards is what my audience learns at the knowledge forum. In your program, you debunk widespread myths. Which nutritional myths are particularly persistent? That eggs are bad for cholesterol and that eating less makes you slimmer. It's simply not true! I'll show you how we can lose weight and become very healthy by including many eggs. Also, the nonsense that we only start burning fat after 30 minutes of exercise is very demotivating - and wrong! Unless you make a typical mistake. My audience will find out what that is. Do you believe that when it comes to nutrition, we lack more knowledge or implementation? More in implementation. Everyone knows how they could do something better. But the inner pig dog protects our literally ingrained habits. For example, when hungry, there's a battle between the head ("Have a piece of fruit now") and the stomach ("Exactly! Have some Toffifees – they also have seeds in them"). With my so-called "perfect day," we send the inner pig dog to obedience school. There, it slowly learns to behave. What would be the first thing you would recommend to someone who wants to lose weight? To visualize their goal. It has to be worth it. Someone who wants to shed a few kilos but doesn't know the clear benefit at the end will be blown away by every small obstacle and immediately fall back into old eating patterns. I also recommend starting small and collecting reference experiences that prove to oneself "It IS possible!" There is a lot of talk nowadays about so-called "superfoods," often sinfully expensive and transported halfway around the world. Are there any local "superfoods" that may be underestimated? Imported superfoods are an expensive hobby. You don't need them to become and stay healthy. Especially since berries, flaxseeds, and all the different types of cabbage grow as superfoods right here in the country and are much cheaper. There are no miracle cures, just exaggerated success stories. And it's these stories that get bought into. Here is the profile of Patric Heizmann.
