Perhaps you have already had very similar thoughts when you saw a lake full of sailboats on a beautiful summer day: Strange, even though the wind is blowing from one direction and everyone has the same conditions, they are all sailing in various directions, and at different speeds too. How is that possible?
Make the Best of Circumstances
The wind (that is, the conditions) is the same for everyone. But it is not the wind that is crucial. Everything depends on how the sails are set. And that is the sailor's responsibility. Our lives – and success in life – work in a similar way. We may not be able to influence the wind, but we can decide how to set the sails. We often cannot change the circumstances, but we can change our attitude. We can see ourselves as victims of circumstances. Or as doers who make the best out of any situation.
"It doesn't matter where you come from. Only the direction you are heading now determines where you will end up."
What kind of person are you? Don't you want to be someone who has absolute control over their life, who makes a difference, is self-responsible, independent, and self-confident? The decision ultimately lies with each individual. Even if you may not believe it yet: You can achieve what you want. If you manage to believe it is achievable.
The Power in Our Mind
"Mindset" refers to the power in the mind, the mindset, the mental attitude that guides behavior. Studies have already confirmed that having the right attitude is one of the fundamental factors for success, especially in the professional world. Research has been conducted on what really matters in job allocation. Most people will think: Of course, the applicant's expertise. Or their overall demeanor. Of course, how smart and competent someone is matters – but these qualities only account for 15 percent of the evaluation. What is significantly more important (85 percent) is the internal attitude towards tasks, colleagues, and especially oneself.
The Decision Lies with Us
The great educator and clergyman Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi not only preached trust in God but also addressed a very important power: "Do not forget, human! Everything you are, everything you want, everything you should, comes from yourself." He meant the human privilege of freedom of choice. Everyone has ultimately freely chosen what they are doing now and what defines them. Their way of life, their daily routine, their partner, work, home, and place of residence.
"When you're up to your neck in water, you can't let your head hang down."
Success Begins in the Mind
"The greatest revolution of my generation is the discovery that by changing their inner attitude, people can improve their external life circumstances," said Harvard Professor Dr. James as early as 1905. All successful people have this mentality for success. They trust themselves. They know they are capable of learning everything and doing whatever it takes to reach their goal. When you examine success stories more closely, you will find that successful people always live by the so-called reality principle. For them, the world, everyday life is not a wish concert. The fact is: We have to deal with the world as it is. Not as we wish it to be, as it should or could be. Wishful thinking gets us nowhere. But with a sense of reality, we realize that ultimately we have everything in our hands – all our decisions that determine our destiny.
