Jutta Kleinschmidt part of the buggy development program at X-raid
Kleinschmidt and Tina Thörner to compete in Abu Dhabi and Qatar
The X-raid buggy project continues: After the buggy had to be unexpectedly withdrawn from the Dakar race, the development of the two-wheel-drive vehicle continues. X-raid has managed to secure a very experienced driver pairing: Jutta Kleinschmidt will take the wheel and together with her Swedish co-driver Tina Thörner, they will gather more important racing kilometers at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge and the Sealine Cross Country Rally in Qatar. Kleinschmidt, who became the first woman to win the Dakar Rally in 2001, also has several years of buggy experience. She has participated in the Dakar Rally multiple times in a Schlesser Buggy and in 2003 in the Volkswagen Tarek. She is no stranger to X-raid: in 2006 and 2007, she competed in several events with the BMW X3 CC.
Kleinschmidt: "Looking forward to the challenge"
In late 2014, X-raid started the buggy project, venturing into completely new territory. Until then, only all-wheel-drive vehicles had been developed and built in the workshop in Trebur. Due to the current development of technical regulations, X-raid is focusing on the two-wheel-drive vehicle. Sven Quandt: "The buggy is an important project for us, and unfortunately, we lack crucial kilometers. Being able to win Jutta for the project is an important step - she is not only familiar with two-wheel-drive vehicles, but also with the development of race cars. Since we cannot currently predict how the technical regulations will evolve in the future, we will continue to focus on two-wheel technology. Of course, we are also continuing to work on making the MINI ALL4 Racing faster and more competitive." Jutta Kleinschmidt: "I am very excited about this new challenge. Developing a vehicle is always something special, as it requires a lot more focus on technology and processes. The two rallies in Abu Dhabi and Qatar are a perfect combination: in Abu Dhabi, we will mainly encounter sand and dunes, while in Qatar, we will face hard ground and rocks."
