Stumbling Blocks on the Way to Becoming a Top Speaker
For many trainers and coaches, it is a professional dream to stand on big stages, move the masses, and earn over €5,000 for speaking for less than an hour! To get there, they think about positioning, a cool website, and surprising marketing actions. Unfortunately, they often forget the most important thing for success as a speaker: an outstanding keynote speech that touches people and truly inspires them! Without an excellent speech, it is impossible to become a top speaker. An excellent speech consists of unique content that perfectly suits the speaker and is skillfully staged. This requires work! Work that most people unfortunately shy away from. Over the past years, I have spoken with many people who wanted to become conference speakers. Very often, they already had an impressive speaker brochure - some even had thick books with catchy quotes and texts in superlatives - but very few had a speech that met professional standards.
Only castles in the air don't need a foundation!
But it's like building a house: without a strong foundation, the rest is doomed to fail. The English word "rock" means, among other things, "rock". To rock on the big stages, you need strong content and an impactful presentation as a basis. But what makes remarkable content and how do you find it? By the way, it's not hidden in the books and videos of colleagues! Here the rule applies: "Copy & waste!" Those who copy, lose! The market demands uniqueness and the unheard of! The task of the speaker is to convey their own insights and experiences. Of course, these contents can be underpinned with expertise, such as research results or proven models, but at the center should be the personality of the speaker and their individual views. This also distinguishes trainer presentations from speaker keynotes, among other things. Trainers are booked for a topic, speakers for their personality and unique perspectives! Content first! In my content coaching for speakers, an important component is biography work. Together, we look into the past of each participant. We search for outstanding achievements, special experiences, and extraordinary encounters. This makes the uniqueness of the individual visible. Following my personal success creed as a speaker: "Discover your uniqueness and present it in a marketable way so that others can benefit sustainably from it!" I am convinced that there is something very special in each of us, from which others can learn a lot. Those who have a story or have experienced exciting stories have something to tell, belong on the big stages, and will make their way as top speakers. How to playfully and skillfully stage these contents, we will look at next time!
