Management thought leader receives highest award in the training industry Anyone looking for effective management information will sooner or later come across Fredmund Malik. The economist is unparalleled in representing manageable and teachable management. He turned to the systems sciences early on and engaged with concepts that are indispensable in today's leadership discussions, such as self-organization and complexity. For these achievements, the Austrian was awarded the Life Achievement Award 2018 in the training industry on April 13, 2018. The lifetime achievement award was presented for the twelfth time by a panel of leading representatives of the training industry. Around 420 trainers and HR developers witnessed the economist's award at the industry event Petersberger Trainertage in Bonn. The laudatory speech for the awardee was given by Walter Krieg, co-founder of the St. Gallen Management Model. "Fredmund Malik combines scientific foundation with practical application and usability. His approach is based on enabling an organization to function correctly and well according to its purpose, and to leverage complexity rather than simply reduce it," praised Malik's longtime companion, 73-year-old Walter Krieg. "Malik's work represents the teachable and learnable standard of professional management and a holistic perspective. He recognized early on that business administration alone is not sufficient for managing and leading organizations," emphasized panel member Nicole Bußmann. Fredmund Malik was deeply moved by the award and the standing ovations at the ceremony: "I am touched and moved. I am encouraged to keep going. The Life Achievement Award 2018 is just a Midlife Award for me," promised the Austrian with a twinkle in his eye during his acceptance speech. In his keynote on the second day of the event, the visionary, who is now in high demand not only in Europe but also in Asia, provided insights into his thoughts on how to manage the current transformation, based on insights from systems theory, cybernetics, and bionics. The Life Achievement Award (LAA) honors the lifetime work of a trainer, coach, speaker, author, scientist, or educational organization and is considered one of the highest accolades in the training industry. The nomination of the awardee is the responsibility of the LAA panel. Members of the panel include: Anja Myrdal (Vice President of the umbrella organization of training organizations (DVWO)), Nicole Bußmann (Editor-in-Chief of managerSeminare Verlags GmbH), Gerd Kulhavy (Managing Director of the Speakers Excellence Speakers Agency), André Jünger (Owner of the Gabal Verlag and board member of the Didacta Association), and Andreas Buhr (Keynote Speaker and Past President of the German Speakers Association e.V.).
