Markus Hengstschläger completed his doctorate in genetics at the age of 24 with a shortened study program and distinction. He then worked at Yale University in the USA, became an associate professor at the age of 29, and was appointed full professor at the age of 35. Today, he heads the Institute of Medical Genetics at the Medical University of Vienna and is active as an entrepreneur in the fields of genetic diagnostics, research and development, and innovation consulting. The highly acclaimed and internationally recognized scientist advises governments and companies. He is a recipient of the Grand Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic, sits on several supervisory boards, and is the deputy chairman of the Austrian Bioethics Commission and the Austrian Council for Research and Technology Development. He is also a science moderator on ORF Radio Ö1 and the author of three number-one bestsellers ("The Power of Genes," "Finally Infinite," and "The Average Trap"), which have been voted among the most popular non-fiction books of the year.
