Anyone who is not a doctor or scientist cannot really assess the effects of Corona. I also find it difficult to determine whom to believe in this time. However, as opaque as the situation may be for laypeople on the medical side, it is certain that companies now more than ever need leaders. People who advance others, alleviate their fears, and provide them with guidance as much as is currently possible. It is essential for leaders to communicate extensively, create transparency, and - as good leaders do - make decisions. A very important aspect, which is often forgotten in the current hectic and stressful situation, is preparing for the upcoming and urgently needed change in many companies. Leaders must already inform their employees about the upcoming changes and take all necessary measures to ensure that they can be implemented as quickly as possible once the Corona crisis is over. I think it is clear to all of us that things will not continue as they did before Corona after the pandemic. Companies will need to restructure and reposition themselves differently. Employees will receive new working time and salary models. Primarily, there will be increased attention given to digitization and process redefinition. Excursion into Politics Let's take a brief look at politics. Specifically, at the processes for supporting and the funding measures for companies and sole proprietors. It quickly becomes clear that even a country like Germany cannot handle the rush for these measures. Why is that? Because many things have been neglected in terms of digitalization in recent years. Even several days after the government's announcement to support companies with funding and grants, there are still no clear processes on how entrepreneurs can actually access this support and funding. Presumably, faxes or emails need to be sent, but there is no digitized process that could make the procedure simple, fast, smooth, with minimal human effort - and with 100% transparency for all parties involved. However, not only in the government but also in many companies, there are still far too few digitized processes. Success lies in the future Old processes are still too slow, cumbersome, and often not transparent enough. Now, leaders are called upon to think ahead and not just spend their time as executives dealing with current issues such as short-time work, employee scheduling, or similar matters. Now, leaders are needed who think creatively, who are already developing the first action plans on how a company should act and be positioned after Corona. A challenge here is people's ego, which unfortunately often gets in the way. Due to their personal attitudes, they either do not react or react too timidly. Too much time is spent on discussions, pointless meetings, and unproductive workshops. Any leader who is still engaged in these activities should now begin to transform themselves in order to become a true leader. Another challenge will be how to effectively and efficiently run workshops on "shaping the future." Because here too, new skills and competencies of leaders are necessary. Reflect on yourself: How proficient are you in moderating online meetings, online surveys/questionnaires, creative sessions, and so on... many new fields are emerging that need to be addressed as quickly as possible.
