(Bonn) The world of further education owes him a lot: Manfred Kets de Vries has internationally ensured that the importance of soft skills for business success has been recognized through his work. The economist and psychoanalyst revolutionized executive education, developed new learning formats such as group coaching, and shaped the face of the elite business school INSEAD. For these achievements, the Dutchman was awarded the Life Achievement Award of the further education industry on April 15, 2016.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented for the tenth time by a panel of leading representatives of the further education industry. Around 450 trainers and human resources developers witnessed the honoring of the Dutchman at the prestigious industry event
Petersberg Trainer Days in Königswinter near Bonn. The laudatory speech for the award winner was given by Karlheinz Schwuchow, Professor of International Management at the University of Bremen. "Through his bridging of psychoanalysis and management theory, he has expanded the traditional focus and opened up a new perspective on the topic of leadership," Schwuchow praised the achievements of the 73-year-old. "With his work, he has made soft skills socially acceptable and provided crucial impulses for executive education," emphasized panel member Nicole Bußmann.
Kets de Vries was deeply moved by the award and the standing ovations at the award ceremony. He had prepared his acceptance speech in German: "Since I know that I am already past my expiration date, I am glad to receive the Life Achievement Award during my lifetime. Far too many awards are given posthumously," said the Dutchman, who has been living in France for many years. In his keynote speech on the second day of the event, Kets de Vries entertained the audience with a whirlwind tour of insights from his forty-year research career.
