What inspired you to launch the initiative “The Future Needs Optimism”?
Gerd Kulhavy: In recent months, we’ve noticed in conversations with clients, partners, friends, and family that uncertainty and dissatisfaction are growing. In a time where negativity dominates the headlines, it’s close to our hearts to shift the focus back to what’s positive — to the many opportunities and possibilities that still exist. Together with over 100 top speakers, trainers, and entrepreneurs, we want to lead by example and spread confidence. Our goal is to show that positive change is possible and to inspire people to take action. With our experts’ knowledge and experience, we aim to spread optimism and make a constructive contribution to overcoming today’s challenges.
How do you define optimism in the context of personal and professional success?
Jana Kulhavy: Optimism is a blend of positive thinking, resilience, and perseverance. It means staying hopeful and focused on your strengths, even in the face of setbacks. Optimism requires a willingness to change, a clear vision, and a curious mindset. It allows us to spot opportunities — even during uncertain times — and motivates us to keep going when the road gets tough. It’s the engine that helps us stay in control of our lives, both professionally and personally.
Why is optimism more important now than ever?
Gerd Kulhavy: We’re facing major challenges: climate change, economic uncertainty, social division, and geopolitical conflicts. On top of that, rapid technological change is disrupting work and daily life. These complex issues require one thing above all — optimism. It’s essential to maintain a forward-looking attitude so we can find sustainable solutions and shape a better future together.
How do leaders influence the optimism of their teams?
Gerd Kulhavy: Leaders play a crucial role. They serve as role models — their mindset, communication, and behavior set the tone. At Speakers Excellence, we value open communication, fast decision-making, and an environment of trust and creativity. We love developing ideas together and questioning existing processes to improve. Our strong network of experts constantly exposes us to new inspirations, which keeps us learning and growing.
How do you personally stay optimistic in everyday life?
Jana Kulhavy: Daily routines help us a lot. Mornings start with "me-time" — light exercise, meditation, a quiet cup of coffee or fresh muesli. In the evenings, we enjoy time with our son and unwind over a Mediterranean-style dinner. Family and friends give us strength. Intentional breaks and enough sleep are key to recharging. And above all, we practice gratitude for what we have.
What gives you hope for the future?
Gerd Kulhavy: I see huge potential in artificial intelligence — despite its risks, it’s a powerful tool for creativity and productivity. It also helps alleviate the skilled labor shortage. Europe’s leadership in renewable energy is another hopeful sign — especially in wind and solar power. And of course, we constantly meet inspiring founders with fresh business ideas through our work. That gives us confidence.
How does optimism promote innovation?
Jana Kulhavy: Optimism opens the mind. People who look to the future with hope are more curious and willing to take risks. It leads to more courage, a healthier attitude toward failure, and stronger team cohesion. These are all key ingredients for innovation. That’s exactly what our speakers and trainers encourage on stage: optimism, learning, and action.
