The Power of Impact
Practical tips on how to unleash the potentials of your impact and achieve sustainable success in business
Behind the big word charisma, there are several terms: presence, empathy, emotion, congruence, eloquence, staging, and of course impact, or rather,
personal impact power, the appearance. Only those who know how to convince through body language can also convince in terms of content, and not vice versa. After all, it is the nonverbal signals that we first perceive in others. In the following, I will show you how, as a leader, you can unfold the potentials of your charisma through simple yet precisely used body language and thereby convince others.
Poker face is a thing of the past
Forget the poker face in business life; the supposed advantage that comes from it is actually a misconception. For sustainable business relationships, you will be much more successful if you show emotions, perceive the emotions of others, and show genuine interest. This is how you win others over to your ideas. Therefore, try to put yourself in the other person's shoes, in other words, be empathetic instead of being a cold numbers person only focused on your own advantage.
Consistent overall impression
What you think, say, and do must be consistent and convey the same message. In other words,
your overall impression must be consistent, there must be congruence. This creates the impression of honesty and makes you appear credible. Consistent behavior also requires acting decisively and responsibly.
Impression Management
Staging does not mean pretending, but skillfully using your authenticity. It is clear that if you feel insecure when trying to convince someone of your idea, you should not show that insecurity 1:1. However, even in such a situation, you do not need to take on a false role, but rather present yourself in the way you would like to be seen and in which you have often succeeded. So, present yourself in a self-assured manner. By doing so, you steer the impression you create in the desired direction. This so-called impression management is now an integral part of the self-presentation of companies, organizations, and individuals. Regardless of the effort put into a perfect staging, the key is: first think about how you want to appear, and then present yourself accordingly. The main thing is that it suits your personality. And of course, the less you have to stage yourself, the more credible you will appear.
Appearance is Reality
When people radiate strength, health, and vitality, it is not by chance, but rather they possess
social attractiveness. Most people whose charisma attracts us have invested in their appearance, style, elegance, and good manners. Therefore, they can move appropriately in any social setting and confidently and gracefully display their charm. So, my tip for your external capital: stay fit, educate yourself on etiquette, dress advantageously and always appropriately for the occasion. "Clothes make the man," still to this day! Also, take an interest in what is happening in the world, what special events are coming up. Being able to engage in conversation is also part of your external capital.
Always Fully Engaged
An essential tool for charisma is
presence, and by that, I mean not just physical presence but also mental presence. Always focus on the present moment, on the person in front of you. Remain calm, composed, and observant. Argue confidently and convincingly when your (speaking) time comes. This is how you skillfully make an impact.
If you have a good sense of your body, enough self-confidence, a healthy dose of self-love, joy of life, courage, and a genuine interest in people, then you already have the best prerequisites for a positive aura and a charismatic effect.
Small tips that are normally self-evident:
- Maintain an upright posture
- Emphasize what you say with your hands
- Smile, but genuinely
- The eyes matter – maintain eye contact for a moment
- Show emotions, feel what is going on with the other person
- Reflect on your own impact, as it has an effect
