Feeling in need of a vacation again? How to maintain that vacation feeling

Colleagues who return to the workplace after the holidays are often quickly frustrated. Why does the holiday feeling disappear so quickly and what can be done about it? Tips from Michael Vaas. "I'm already in need of another vacation!" Few things are as fleeting as the holiday feeling. Once back at the workplace, frustration and stress quickly set in. Two mistakes you should definitely avoid: Realize that you are in the office and no longer at the beach, and do not overwhelm yourself.

1. Also mentally end your vacation

The time in flip-flops, bikini, or shorts is over. Clear processes, tasks, and schedules apply, which you didn't have to worry about during your vacation. Don't think about the vacation, as it will only lead to frustration and disappointment at your desk.

2. Don't take on too much

No one expects you to catch up on everything that was left undone during the holidays in one day. Plan some time in the first week to catch up on backlog deliberately. Rather leave out some appointments that can be done later. If you put yourself under time pressure now, you will soon feel the need for another vacation.

3. Get an overview

Talk to your colleagues, your replacement, and your boss. Ask what needs to be done and what has been left undone. Differentiate between relevant tasks and others. And postpone colleagues who want to update you with the latest gossip. Distraction has no place on your to-do list right now. A to-do list helps prioritize work

4. Set priorities

Read your emails and colleagues' notes only once and then decide:

  • what do I need to do immediately?
  • what can I delete right away?
  • what can I delegate or forward?
  • what can I work on later?

5. Now it's time to reward yourself
