Successful companies don’t focus on their current state. They focus on one essential question:
“Where do we want to go?”
They define their market positioning, their future work environment, and what their customers truly need.
In short: they work with a clear vision.
And what about you? Do you know where you want to go?
Today, you won’t receive tips from me – only powerful questions that help sharpen your personal vision.
Vision: Employed or Self-Employed?
Many employees dream of freedom, independence, and a more self-determined life.
The reason they don’t take the first step is rarely the fear of risk. It’s the belief that they must change everything at once.
But why not combine both worlds?
Modern work models now make it possible to reduce hours and build a business on the side. You don’t have to jump, you can transition.
A thought-provoking quote I once read online:
“Most people don’t have the patience to spend three years building their own business to become financially free –
but they have the patience to work 40 hours a week for 40 years and then live on 40% of their income in retirement.”
Does that sound familiar?
Does Your Job Bother You? Be Honest.
During my vacation, I read an interview with Antonio Fabrizi, who worked at Deutsche Bank for most of his career – until he left to follow his vision.
He now runs a bar in Hamburg’s Hafencity and is incredibly happy with his decision.
He said:
“The bar counter is a mirror of life.
30-year-olds say: ‘I only have to push through for 20 more years.’
50-year-olds say: ‘Only ten more years until early retirement.’
Everyone is complaining – although they could change something today.”
His core message:
“If your job bothers you – why are you holding on to it?”
“Then Just Quit!” – Or Maybe Not?
A stranger once said this sentence to me years ago. It hit me harder than I expected.
At that time, I was frustrated with changes in our leadership team and a new strategic direction I didn’t agree with. Yet I stayed – mostly out of comfort.
In difficult work situations, you always have two choices:
- Change the situation.
- Adapt to the situation.
Some colleagues quit and followed their vision. One of them now hosts a major sports show on national television.
For me, quitting wasn’t the right path. I loved the company – so I changed my situation instead.
Six years and hundreds of shows later, I redesigned my role, reduced my hosting days, created my own radio format, and today I stand in the studio every Saturday with joy, dedicating the rest of my work life to keynotes and seminars.
So no, I’m not telling you: “Just quit!”
I’m asking you: “What change would bring you closer to your vision?”
Everyone Wants to Be Successful in What They Do
We all want:
- to enjoy our work,
- to have great interactions with customers,
- to feel appreciated,
- and to see results that make us proud.
I value the performance principle.
I value growth, development, applause and success.
One question has always helped me move forward:
“Where do I want to go?”
