1) “Legal Challenges and Risks of Voice Substitution in AI-Generated Audio Content”

The use of AI-generated audio content—whether in radio, film, or social media—primarily concerns personality rights, copyright law, and criminal law. In his keynote, Christoph Engel-Bunsas analyzes current cases (such as those involving Collien Fernandes, Jens Wendland, and Manfred Lehmann) with clarity and precision. He outlines the legal framework and highlights existing protection gaps. This talk addresses creatives, businesses, and policymakers alike, preparing them for the disruptive impact of voice clones and deepfakes.

2) “‚Never Again‘ in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence: When Algorithms Rewrite the Stories of Holocaust Survivors”

The digital resurrection of the voices of the deceased—such as AI-generated audio recordings of Holocaust survivors or victims of the Nazi regime—raises profound ethical and legal questions: Is it an act of reverence or profanation? A preservation of memory or exploitation? Who has the right to decide on the “resurrection” of a voice—family members, historians, tech corporations, or the state? In this interdisciplinary keynote, Christoph Engel-Bunsas explores the legal principles of postmortem personality protection, discusses the philosophical interpretation of voice cloning, and examines the risks of its instrumentalization. He boldly attempts to reconcile human dignity, memory, and technology.

3) “Regulation by Technology: Can Tokenizing the Voice Save Us?”

Voice clones and audio deepfakes present rights holders and society with significant enforcement challenges: Who guarantees the “authenticity,” “ownership,” and “provenance” of the original voice? How can voice owners effectively assert their rights? The answer may lie in technology itself: tokenization and regulation by technology. But can blockchain truly protect voices from appropriation and misuse—or does it create new problems? In his keynote, Christoph Engel-Bunsas examines how technological solutions like NFTs, smart contracts, and decentralized identity verification can provide regulatory approaches—and where their limitations lie.
