"Really enjoyed working with a consummate professional and a very nice person." Jamie McDonald, Group Director at Structured Finance Management Ltd
"During her time at Goldman Sachs Petra has proved an excellent adviser to the Interest Rate Derivative Operations Team with regard to the legal framework (in particular German Master Agreement and ISDA) of our trades." Antje Dorning, Clearing Design at Eurex Clearing AG - Deutsche Börse Group
"Petra was a wonderful coach, mentor and teacher. I learned so much from her about negotiation tactics, legal drafting, the technical background to certain clauses and why counterparts needed certain provisions.
Petra helped me understand how to find compromises and when to stand firm, but also why and how to find win-win solutions that would accommodate both parties’ needs. I felt incredibly well prepared even before I started my official training as a lawyer. Our team contained people from every corner of the globe, such as Canada, Iran, Turkey and New Zealand. We regularly worked with our English and American colleagues, as well as people from different specialties and backgrounds - law, science, IT, business analysis and project management. I experienced how seamless communication can be between people from widely different backgrounds and disciplines when everyone respects each other and works towards a common goal. Petra was incredibly generous with her knowledge and very straight-forward in communications, so I always knew where I was. She never gave me the feeling that I couldn't or shouldn't ask a question. All in all, working with Petra was excellent preparation for practising as a lawyer in a highly technical field." Netanya Clixby, Senior Managing Associate - Derivatives & Structured Finance at Sidley Austin
The new, 4th edition of the book “So you need a new job. Also called ‘Now what??!’ has just been published!
Change management, especially in large companies, can have its pitfalls, especially when the workforce is afraid of losing their jobs as a result of that change. VW in Germany has just experienced this, with employees striking and camping out in front of the factory. Of course, it does not help the company or one's own job in the long term to go on strike when the company is already in trouble. Sometimes the change is vital for the company to survive in a competitive market, and if the company goes under, then the jobs go under with it. But, as an employee, if you fight you at least have the feeling of not being completely powerless, of at least having fought, and maybe you can get something out of it for a short term...
Change management processes almost always meet with internal resistance because people are afraid of losing their livelihoods, their certainty, and their social environment, or because they are simply afraid of losing internal power. This resistance can take unpleasant forms. Employees can be judged for this, but it is an understandable reaction, and judging them does not help. According to an IBM study, there are about 17% saboteurs in every change process in companies, and 33% of the workforce is hesitant to accept the change, no matter what the change is. This is something that companies and society need to respond to because the speed and scope of change will only increase in the future.
This book is intended to help companies and individual employees to deal with change courageously. Often, one cannot only survive the change, but one can use it as a stepping stone to a breakthrough to the next level. When a big wave is heading towards you, you can either bury your head in the sand, stare at it angrily, or buy a surfboard and surf the wave, using it to get much further than you would have made it on your own. We have built this surfboard, i.e. we put together a system that can make it easier, faster, and safer to surf this wave. This system is illustrated in the book in an entertaining way, partly through the stories of those who have already successfully made comparable leaps up the food chain and surfed tsunamis.
This is the 4th edition, which adapts the book to today's world. The first edition was written in 2018, and many of the things that the author foresaw at the time, based only on information from the global elite, have now become reality. Therefore, the book has been updated to reflect the changes.
The book is available on the English Amazon.co.uk website (the link can be found here on the website), a German version is currently being translated and is expected to be available in about 2-3 weeks.
