Raphael von Hoensbroech is a managing director, cultural leader, and leadership expert – and a passionate bridge-builder between business and music. With a background as a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group and as director of the Konzerthaus Dortmund, he unites two worlds: analytical leadership excellence and emotional team dynamics at the highest level. In his keynotes and workshops, he powerfully demonstrates what leaders can learn from conductors – in a language that inspires, connects, and resonates.
With degrees in musicology, philosophy, and law, Raphael von Hoensbroech spent eight years in strategy and organizational consulting. He later took on leadership roles in the cultural sector – first at the Konzerthaus Berlin, and since 2018 as director and CEO of the Konzerthaus Dortmund. His exceptional career allows for a truly interdisciplinary view on leadership, collaboration, and value creation – beyond the boundaries of traditional management logic.
In his talks, audiences experience the orchestra as a powerful metaphor for modern team leadership: the conductor plays no instrument – yet holds full responsibility for the outcome. Their role is to build trust, provide direction, and enable peak performance – without intervening in operational tasks. Raphael von Hoensbroech translates this dynamic into a corporate context and reveals how leadership succeeds when it inspires rather than controls.

Raphael von Hoensbroech can be experienced in a classic keynote format within a workshop as well as in an extraordinary workshop with a live orchestra.
Here, the managers become part of a professional orchestra without playing an instrument themselves. They sit between the musicians on stage and experience first-hand what makes good and bad leadership. They observe the effects of credibility, how the conductor turns notes into music with just a few words. From the role of observer or from the podium with baton in hand, they experience how the conductor and orchestra work together and transfer this to their own leadership role.
