Prof. Dr. Anders Levermann has headed the "Sustainable Solution Strategies" research area at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research since 2012, as well as its flagship project TUMBLE on physical tipping points in the climate system. He is the lead author of the chapter on sea level changes in the IPCC report, which will be published in 2014. After studying physics in Marburg, Berlin and Kiel, where he completed his thesis on the control of spatially extended chaotic systems, he completed his doctorate in theoretical physics at the Weizmann Institute in Israel. He has been researching at the Potsdam Institute since 2003 and has also been Professor for the Dynamics of the Climate System at the Physics Institute of the University of Potsdam since 2007. His expertise includes past and future climate change, its consequences for society and possible global adaptation strategies. He is in great demand as an interview partner on television, radio, the press and online media, as he knows how to explain the climate problem and its possible solutions objectively and clearly. In various articles, e.g. in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, he takes a stand on social issues. His research visits have taken Prof. Levermann to the USA, Australia, China and India, among others.
