Vita

Dieter Brandes, a Hamburg business graduate, was Managing Director and a member of the Board of Directors of ALDI Nord for many years. In these roles, he contributed significantly to the success of the flagship discounter. He also served as Managing Director and Chairman of the Executive Board of the Asko/Metro and Coop Groups, as well as Wendeln/Kamps. International assignments have taken him to the Netherlands, the USA, and Turkey, among other places. Since 1993, he has been a management consultant for the food industry and retail, advising on discount projects in Italy, Turkey, and Malaysia, among others. Dieter Brandes is also an author and speaker. He uses clear examples to demonstrate to his audience how companies can be successfully managed even without a Customer Interaction Center, Sales Force Automation, or Customer Relationship Management—namely, with clear and simple management.

Topics

I have been particularly influenced by the insights I gained as Managing Director and long-standing member of the Board of Directors of the ALDI Group. ALDI is the prototype for success with simple methods. Everyone can learn from this.

Many things are becoming more complex almost daily: in companies as well as in public and private organizations. Added to this is often dissatisfaction with sales, performance, and costs. The demands on management are increasing.

The question is: How can we deal with these problems and complexity sensibly and successfully? How can we improve? How can we master complexity?
