Dieter Thoma, one of the most successful and popular German ski jumpers, was Olympic champion, two-time world champion, multiple German champion and four-hill tour winner and overall World Cup winner in ski jumping. He achieved 12 World Cup victories, with his longest jump being 213 meters (1997). After his sporting career, he received two television awards (Golden Victoria, Bavarian Television Award) together with Günther Jauch for the RTL ski jumping broadcasts and several nominations for the German Television Award. The “millennium jump” through the air from 23.59.59 in 1999 to 00.00.04 in 2000 is regarded as a symbol of a new life after sport.
