Gerd Gigerenzer is Director at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Director of the Harding Center for Risk Literacy, Berlin. He is a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, an honorary doctor of the University of Basel and the Open University of the Netherlands, John M. Olin Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Virginia School of Law and Batten Fellow at the Darden Business School of the University of Virginia. He was a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies at Stanford, a Visiting Professor at Queen's University, Canada, and a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University and Princeton University. In 2011, he was awarded the German Psychology Prize and the Communicator Prize. With Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England, he is working on the project “Simple heuristics for a safer world.” He trains managers, American federal judges and German doctors in the art of decision-making and in dealing with risk and uncertainty. His latest book is called “RISK: How to make the right decisions”.
