Hans-Werner Sinn, born in 1948, studied economics at the Westfälische Wilhelms-University in Münster. He received his doctorate in 1978 and his habilitation in 1983 at the University of Mannheim. Since 1984 he has been a professor of economics and public finance at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. He has also held visiting professorships and carried out research work at the University of Western Ontario in Canada and the London School of Economics, among others. In 1999 Hans-Werner Sinn became president of the ifo Institute in Munich. Since 1991 he has been director of the Center for Economic Studies (CES) at the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) and is managing director of CESifo GmbH, which is a joint initiative of the LMU and the ifo Institute. The economic expert is the author of 10 books and numerous scientific articles and has received awards such as the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
