Heidi Glück and Michael Schmitz are experts in power. They have been advising international companies for many years. Glück was a press spokesperson for ministers and a strategy expert in the cabinet of the Austrian Chancellor. She works at the center of power, knows its structures from the inside and knows how to use power. Both Glück and Schmitz are proven communication professionals, experts in strategic communication consulting and crisis communication. Glück was previously a freelance journalist, then worked for ORF for ten years. In his earlier career, Schmitz was studio manager for ZDF in East Berlin, Washington and Vienna, and ZDF chief reporter. He reported on the fall of the Berlin Wall, the wars in the Gulf and in the former Yugoslavia. Schmitz coaches managers and management teams. He teaches as a professor (FH) for psychology and management at Lauder Business School Vienna and is the author of the book "Psychology of Power". Heidi Glück and Michael Schmitz know power in all its forms and know what power does to people.
Everyone who wants to get ahead needs power. Power concerns everyone. Anyone who wants to shape their own life and career must understand how power works. They must know its anatomy and mechanisms and master the rules of the game of power. They must know the resources that power draws from and be prepared to conquer and exercise power themselves.
Heidi Glück and Michael Schmitz are the experts on power. They explain what constitutes power, in politics, business and the media. Where there are similarities and differences in these areas. They show how power can be conquered and defended, how it is abused and how it slips away.
Power is necessary to be productive. But power changes people. This is proven by scientific studies as well as practical experience. Power makes people more egocentric, promotes self-righteousness and self-interest, and tempts people to ignore rules. Power strengthens self-confidence and can be exercised for the sake of power alone. Power can be addictive. The changes do not affect everyone in the same way, but no one can escape them completely.
We must therefore understand power and its consequences in order to prevent and possibly prevent abuse of power. Heidi Glück and Michael Schmitz explain how this could work in a double conference.
Heidi Glück and Michael Schmitz have received the Silver Medal of Merit of the Republic of Austria.
