Helga Hengge is not only the first German to successfully conquer the summit of Mount Everest, but is also the first German woman to stand on the Seven Summits, the highest mountains on the seven continents - without doubt the highlight of an exciting life between the extremes of creative work and top sporting performance. After graduating from high school, the Munich native moved to New York in 1991, where she worked as a freelance fashion journalist and studied marketing, philosophy and film at New York University. In 1996 she discovered her passion for free climbing and scaled many peaks in quick succession on her way to becoming an extreme mountaineer. On May 27, 1999, she managed to climb Mount Everest via the difficult and dangerous northern route in Tibet as part of the Himalayan Experience Expedition team. In May 2011 she reached the seventh of her Seven Summits, the summit of Mount McKinley in Alaska. Helga Hengge makes history - she becomes the first German woman to climb the highest mountains on the seven continents.
