Helmut Markwort began his career in local journalism, including in Darmstadt and Nuremberg. After working at "Stern," he headed various TV guides, including "Gong," where he also developed innovative print media. At this time, Markwort also worked as a writer for Josef von Ferenczy. From 1985, Helmut Markwort was managing director of Radio Gong 2000 and, until 1991, managing partner of Medienpool GmbH. As editor-in-chief of the news magazine Focus, which established itself as an alternative to Der Spiegel, he shaped the media landscape in Germany. His slogan, "Facts, facts, facts," is also familiar to everyone today. In 2010, Markwort retired as editor-in-chief of Focus, but remained its publisher. Markwort holds senior positions on the supervisory boards of high-circulation print media and has been the sole authorized managing director of Burda Broadcast Media GmbH since 1994. Markwort has also appeared regularly on television. In addition to the 3Sat "Stammtisch," he also appeared on "NeunZehn" and "bookmark." His accusation that the political left's economic policies were "national socialism" caused a stir. Since October 2007, Markwort has hosted the "Sunday Stammtisch" on Bavarian television.
