Jan Frodeno began his sporting career as a swimmer in South Africa. He grew up in Cape Town for 12 years. At the age of 15, he was considered a latecomer to swimming. At the same time, surfing also became one of his favorite activities. Three years later, he became enthusiastic about lifesaving due to the variety of disciplines. In 2000, he was fascinated by the Olympic triathlon in Sydney and developed a new passion - triathlon! After his first attempts at competitions in his home country of South Africa, he tried his luck in the Bundesliga in 2003 and made it straight into the U23 national team. The U23 vice world championship title in Madeira in 2004 made him realize that he could make it as a professional triathlon athlete. From then on, he worked on his Olympic dream. Since 2004, he has lived in Saarbrücken and trains up to 45 hours a week at the Olympic training center.
