Ottmar Edenhofer is Deputy Director and Chief Economist of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. He also holds the Chair of "Economics of Climate Change" at the Technical University of Berlin and is Co-Chair of Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), as well as Director of the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC). He studied economics and philosophy in Munich and received his doctorate from the Technical University of Darmstadt. During his academic career, Ottmar Edenhofer has led numerous international research projects on climate change mitigation. He has advised and continues to advise high-level political decision-makers in the fields of climate and energy economics. From 2007 to 2009, he was an advisor to the German Federal Foreign Office and currently advises the World Bank on climate change as part of the Green Growth Knowledge Platform. In 2011, he co-edited the internationally acclaimed IPCC Special Report on Renewable Energy and Climate Change Mitigation.
