Peter Ramsauer began his parliamentary career in 1990 when he was first elected to the German Bundestag for the federal constituency of Traunstein–Berchtesgadener Land, which he has since represented with election results of up to nearly 70%.
As Parliamentary Secretary of the CSU regional group in the German Bundestag (1998–2005), he was responsible for coordinating the CSU’s political work in parliament. From 2005 to 2009, Ramsauer served as Chairman of the CSU regional group and, in this role, was also the First Deputy Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group. During this time, he was also a member of the seven-member coalition committee, the central leadership body of the then Grand Coalition. This period included the handling of the banking, global financial, and economic crisis. From 2009 until the end of 2013, he served as Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Development. He was also responsible for major aspects of the energy transition. Since early 2014, Ramsauer has been Chairman of the Bundestag Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy. In addition to his political roles, Ramsauer is President of the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Ghorfa) and patron of the "Initiative Deutschland baut" (Germany Builds Initiative).
