Jäggi was born in Zürich and grew up in Basel, where he went to school. He studied sports at the University of Basel and marketing at the University of St. Gallen. He also studied abroad at Waseda University in Tokyo. Between 1973 and 1986, Jäggi worked in various companies in Basel, Cologne and London, as well as in the USA and Japan. In July 1986, Horst Dassler (son of Adi Dassler) brought him to Adidas as head of sales, where he became chairman of the board a year and a half later. In 2002, Jäggi played a key role in bringing the Judo World Championships to Basel; he was also president of the organizing committee for the World Championships. On September 4, 2002, Jäggi became general representative of 1. FC Kaiserslautern. On November 7, 2002, Jäggi was officially appointed chairman of the board. From January 8, 2003, Jäggi was also formally president of 1. FC Kaiserslautern. It was not until July 31, 2006 that Jäggi handed over his position to his previous board colleague Erwin Göbel. Since April 2007, Jäggi has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Flora EcoPower Holding AG, a company that deals with biodiesel. Jäggi is also a member of the board of directors of Zurmont Madison Management AG in Zurich, a private equity company. He also sits on the board of directors of the Swiss OpenLimit Holding AG and since February 2008 he has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the German Röder Zeltsysteme und Service AG.
