Former international footballer Stefan Effenberg was born in Hamburg on August 2, 1968. Effenberg first played in the German Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach from 1986 to 1990. After moving to FC Bayern Munich in 1990, Effenberg became a star player and was a member of the national team just one year later. In 1992, he was runner-up with the German national team in the European Championships in Sweden. After a successful career at FC Bayern Munich, Effenberg moved to AC Florence in Italy in 1992 and played there until 1994. After returning from the Italian first division club, he played for Borussia Mönchengladbach from 1994 to 1998, with whom he won the German Cup for the first time in 1995. Effenberg celebrated his greatest triumphs as a club player in the FC Bayern Munich team, which he rejoined in 1998. The German championship title in 1999, 2000 and 2001 and victory in the Champions League in 2001 were among the greatest successes of his sporting career.
