Werner Tiki Küstenmacher studied Protestant theology. He also completed journalistic training at the Münchner Merkur and Bayerischer Rundfunk (radio and television). From 1981 to 1990, Tiki Küstenmacher was responsible for media relations for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria. There he founded Evangelisches Fernsehen, a TV production company for SAT.1.
