Hans-Ulrich Jörges, born in 1951, is one of Germany's leading political journalists. He became known through his weekly column in "Stern" magazine and numerous appearances on talk shows. The British "Financial Times" ranked him among the most influential commentators in the world. Jörges came to "Stern" via the Reuters news agency and the "Süddeutsche Zeitung," where he became a member of the editorial board and editor-in-chief for special issues at the Gruner+Jahr publishing house in 2007. Under his leadership, the magazine uncovered the scandal surrounding Defense Minister Rudolf Scharping, which led to his downfall in 2002. Jörges initiated the history portal "Memory of the Nation," the European Charter for Press Freedom, and the European Center for Press and Media Freedom in Leipzig.
