Klaus Scherer, born in 1961, is one of Germany's most renowned television reporters, having studied sociology, geography and journalism in Mainz, completed a traineeship at the former broadcaster Freies Berlin and then worked as a domestic correspondent for ARD Aktuell in Berlin. Later reporter and editor at “Panorama” (NDR) in Hamburg, ARD Far East correspondent and studio manager in Tokyo, most recently America reporter in Washington. Teaches at the American University in Washington. Author, editor and travel correspondent in Hamburg since 2012, known to viewers as the author of current affairs TV documentaries and commentator on the ARD Tagesthemen as well as a humorous travel and adventure reporter. He has won several journalism awards (including the Grimme Prize and the German Television Prize) and published several books, including the SPIEGEL bestsellers “Wahnsinn Amerika: Innenansichten einer Weltmacht” about Barack Obama's first term in office and “Nagasaki - Warum fiel die zweite Bombe?” about the end of the Pacific War.
